A native of Southeast Pennsylvania, Skip Dyrda now lives
and works in Sarasota, Florida where he is proprietor of New World Productions,
his own fine and decorative art studio and gallery. He attended Kutztown University
and Wyomissing Institute of Fine Art in Pennsylvania before moving southward in
1992.
Skip now specializes in the fine art of trompe l'oeil,
which is French for "deceive the eye." In painting, trompe l'oeil is the act of
tricking the viewer regarding the reality of the object that is being viewed.
This idea first appealed to the ancient Greeks who were newly freed from the conventional
stylizations of earlier art. This technique was also popular with the Roman muralists,
as well as European artists during the Renaissance period.
While murals and the trompe l'oeil technique are his passion,
Skip can be found creating almost anything from nautically inspired watercolor
