In this traditional, majestic ketubah design, "Emanuel I," the twelve tribes of Israel are represented by the center windows through which one can see the sky that illuminates the ketubah from behind. The rich silver tones of the ornate design work give this ketubah an almost antique quality. Rays of blue and silver in the arch above the window panes draw your eye upwards. In the center of the twelve panes sits a silver Star of David. Delicate ornamentation forms columns to the left and right. The artwork forms a frame around the ketubah text in the center, while the popular wedding phrase from the Song of Songs, "I am my beloved?s, and my beloved is mine," is written below the text in English and above, the Hebrew, "Ani l?dodi v?dodi li." The artist, Micah Parker, had this to say: While walking along Central Park back to my hotel from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, I happened to pass by the synagogue for Congregation Emanu-El. Since then, Emanu-El's facade has become a recurring theme in my work.
