This design blends themes that bring continual encouragement to both my husband and I who share both Jewish and Celtic traditions. The Tree of Life is a shared symbol reminiscent of the innocence and abundance of life in the garden as told in the Jewish story, and the ongoing interconnectedness of life in Celtic mythology. It speaks of the re-creation of marriage, renewing and rebuilding two lives into one new and beautiful life. Celtic knot-work is often used to signify unending commitment and devotion. If you follow these strands closely you will find that this tree has two sides which are woven together by a third strand in the trunk or core of the tree. This third strand echoes the reflection in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. It reminds us of the support we offer to one another and the support of the Creator who has woven us together.
"Two are better than one,
Because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up.
Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken."

Claire began working with MP Artworks at the Florida Studio in 2001. Encouraged by the work of the other artists and the art of ketubah making, she then began to explore and connect her Jewish heritage to her painting. This season breathed fresh air into her work and she soon began to display her paintings with MP Artworks. She is delighted at the privilege of sharing her work with couples as a celebration of their marriage and of Jewish culture.
Claire graduated from the University of Hawai'i in 1997, earning a BFA in painting with High Honors. Her works have appeared in exhibits throughout the U.S. and Canada. She currently works as a painter and graphic designer and resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia with her husband, Ian.
